About Melissa
My name is Melissa and I am the owner of Honey Blossom Cooking. I have always loved to eat and explore the world through food. As a teenager, I became interested in nutrition and eating healthfully. However, my pursuit for the healthy, balanced regiment went awry at times as I found myself trying fad diets and unsustainable meal plans. I got into a vegetarianism by way of processed foods—think mass-produced, frozen veggie burgers. Eventually, the connection between diet and health became clearer to me. By my 20s, I started collecting recipes and learning more about food and cooking. I discovered Dr. Furman’s book Eat to Live, which promotes a nutrient-dense, plant-based diet. I followed the program for 6 weeks, lost weight and had a lot of energy. Moreover, I got a better understanding of nutrition and how the body works. Reading this book sent me down the rabbit hole of food and nutrition.
I had hit a point in my life that was filled with self-reflection, self-discovery, and change.
During this time, I decided to finish my degree in psychology and make a pivot to the culinary world, enrolling at the Miami Culinary Institute. While in culinary school, I continued to work as an assistant at a local estate, where I had access to a vegetable garden. One of my favorite things to do was to pick the vegetables and prepare lunch for my coworkers. Eventually, I left my job to pursue my culinary career full-time. I worked in several notable Miami restaurants and volunteered at Teena’s Pride Farm, a local, sustainable farm. Through my experiences, I gained an even stronger appreciation for plants. I fell in love with the flavorful, freshly-picked vegetables at Teena’s. My first job was with a chef who encouraged a healthy lifestyle and farm-to-table cuisine. I loved her philosophy and I gained so much knowledge. Additionally, I began seeing a few clients privately. After a few years and with my invaluable lessons from the restaurant world, I decided to start my own business as a personal chef and expand my budding clientele. Since launching Honey Blossom Cooking, I went back to school to become a certified health coach. This program will help me to better understand, guide and support my clients’ dietary and nutritional needs and round out the Honey Blossom services.
